Foreign trade 2023
Challenges and trends on imports and exports
In the first four months of 2023, exports faced a decrease of 21.3%, impacted by lower quantities and prices. Products such as wheat, soybean pellets and corn registered drops, while motor vehicles and natural gas presented an increase in shipments. The destinations also showed variations, with falls in exports to the European Union and the United States, while Brazil experienced an increase.
On the other hand, imports decreased by 6.4%, influenced by lower quantities and a slight increase in prices. Fuels and lubricants, capital goods and consumer goods were some of the categories affected. However, purchases from Brazil and the United States increased, while those from the European Union and China decreased.
In addition, international freight costs for imports experienced a significant drop of 24.2%.
These trends reflect the current economic context, with challenges for companies that operate in foreign trade. The drought, the exchange rate and export taxes have affected foreign sales, while the economic stagnation and restrictions on purchases have affected imports.
The outlook for the rest of the year presents uncertainty, with projections for a drop in GDP. It is essential to carefully analyze this data to adapt to the new market conditions and make decisions to face the challenges that arise.
