In the midst of an uncertain international outlook, the local economic situation faces challenges that impact this year’s macroeconomic performance. From import restrictions to exchange rate volatility, companies operate in a context of lower activity and availability of foreign currency.

The global situation influences national dynamics, impacting foreign trade, investment, financing and economic performance. As the presidential elections progress, the lack of international reserves and restrictions in the exchange market present limits to economic policy. With inflation exceeding 100% annually and net reserves of less than one month of imports, a challenging year is on the horizon.

Inflation, the loss of reserves and the restriction on currencies are the main macroeconomic inconsistencies that mark the scenario. Despite a 2022 year of growth, economic activity is beginning to show signs of exhaustion, with falls in different sectors. The restriction on imports is the valve that is adjusted according to the availability of dollars.

In summary, 2023 is ending with lower currency supply, rising inflation, exchange rate pressure and considerable financial risks. Rising poverty and rising unemployment are major social challenges. In addition, the drought that affects agricultural production and exports. We will have to see the impact of these variables on foreign trade and the economy in general.

Geopolitics and Global Economy: Impact on Argentina

The global economy faces an end to the year of change and challenges, with the IMF forecasting growth of 2.7%. Although some major economies, such as the US (1%), China (4.4%) and Japan (1.6%), face modest developments, global GDP will exceed $100 trillion for the first time. However, this situation affects Argentina, since its exports face slowing markets.

Hoy en día, el ácido crómico tiene un rol muy importante en distintos sectores industriales. Sin embargo, puede traer consigo grandes riesgos para la salud. De lo que se trata es de un sólido inodoro y oscuro de color rojizo morado y una apariencia que se asemeja a la de la arena. Se usa especialmente en medicamentos, en cromado, en pinturas y en vidriado de cerámicas. Es una sustancia química corrosiva que puede generar graves irritaciones y quemaduras en la piel y en los ojos. Por eso, a continuación, hablaremos de sus riesgos y de las mejores prácticas para su manipulación en el ámbito laboral.

Riesgos del ácido crómico para la salud

Los primeros efectos a los que queremos hacer mención del ácido crómico sobre la salud de las personas pueden ocurrir de forma inmediata o poco tiempo después de la exposición. Estos suelen incluir, como hemos mencionado, quemaduras en la piel y en los ojos, añadiendo la posibilidad de provocar daños permanentes en los ojos. Además, respirar ácido crómico puede irritar la garganta, la nariz y los pulmones, causando respiración con silbido, tos y falta de aire.
Pero el ácido crómico puede traer también efectos crónicos sobre la salud, capaces de durar meses o años. Uno de estos efectos es el cancerígeno. Diversos estudios científicos demuestran que un alto nivel de exposición al ácido crómico puede llevar a que la sustancia genere cáncer. Además, cabe destacar que el ácido crómico puede causar daño en los fetos en desarrollo.
Por otra parte, hablando de los efectos a largo plazo, el ácido crómico puede generar lesiones en el tabique nasal, llevando a secreciones, hemorragia o formación de una costra. También puede causar alergia en la piel. En caso de que esto último ocurra, es muy importante bajar la exposición. Esto, debido a que, si sigue siendo alta, puede implicar afecciones en el hígado.

Ácido crómico: ¿qué hacer en el trabajo?

En los casos en los que el ácido crómico no pueda ser reemplazado para sus fines con otra sustancia, lo que se recomienda es acudir a efectivos controles de ingeniería, que son la forma adecuada de reducir la exposición. Además, se considera que la mejor protección es encerrar las operaciones y proveer ventilación por extracción localizada en el lugar en que se producen las emisiones químicas. También se puede proceder a aislar las operaciones y acudir al uso de respiradores o equipo de protección, aunque esto puede ser menos efectivo sin las claves mencionadas con anterioridad.
Al mismo tiempo, se recomienda transferir el ácido crómico o bombearlo automáticamente desde los tambores u otros recipientes de almacenamiento que sean específicos para ello.

Tips de buenas prácticas

Además de lo mencionado con anterioridad, podemos destacar los siguientes tips para manipular ácido crómico en el ámbito laboral:

Cambiar sin demora la ropa de los trabajadores que la hayan visto contaminada por ácido crómico.
Proceder a lavarla, con los trabajadores sabiendo los peligros de la exposición.
No llevar la ropa de trabajo contaminada al hogar ni al vehículo.
Contar con instalaciones de duchas de emergencia en caso de exposición de la piel.
Utilizar lavaojos de forma inmediata en caso de exposición.
No comer, beber ni fumar en el espacio en el que se manipula, almacena o procesa ácido crómico.
Utilizar aspiradoras o métodos húmedos para reducir el polvo durante la limpieza en caso de trabajar con ácido crómico, evitando siempre barrer en seco, debido a que es una forma de levantar el polvo y aumentar las chances de contacto.
